Aloha All!
“808 Zones” was first and foremost designed to be a method for me to bring many of the new sound ideas I had together, and present them in a cohesive format. I had a ton of new music ideas I was excited to present. Encompassing some new instruments and a completely different approach to making a Compact Disc (CD).
The issue for me was that there was so much material I wanted to use that I had to make some decisions about how and where to present the music. Ultimately I wound up with enough performance material for three different CD’s and/or albums. Those CD’s are titled: 808 Zones (2016), 808 Stones (2017) and 808 Bones (2018).
As I was developing the concept for the (808) trilogy, I was also working to develop my skills with the Ukulele, the Accordion as well as the guitar. Attempting to master new musical skills is never easy. A wise person once said it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become proficient at any endeavor. They may be right, and short of the keyboards I don’t have anything near that amount of time invested. But, I am learning as I go… and you get to hear it!
“808 Zones” contains 10 original songs written by me (Richard Hart) and 6 songs I have musically arranged for a new perspective. I always write with the idea of improvement, and the concept required that I made the songs incorporate and “Island” feel.
