Coastal Landscape by Richard Hart

Gauguin Reimagined

Many Artists have captivated my thinking and interest, but none so vividly and comprehensively as Eugene Henri Paul Gauguin (1848 -1903). Simply put, he was a passionate man and a gifted art creator. His hands never stopped creating. When he ran out of paint he used citrus and berry juice dyes and local earth organics as his paint. At various periods he used old sails as canvas. Remarkable!

Recreating Gauguin's art requires your hand following his on the canvas. His tracings are still very visible on most of his work. What really started my head spinning was his choices of color palette. Time has not always been good to Gauguin's art work as his paints were not always well engineered. But that is the fun part for me! In trying to look through Gauguin's eyes I have inserted more amplitude in certain spectral aspects, and conversely minimized the portions of his work I simply could not understand or replicate. In some areas, I simply did the work the way I wanted to see it.
